Thrashers and Panthers continue season series in Sunrise

Hockey Betting Lines

01/18/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlanta Thrashers and Florida Panthers will continue what has so far been an exciting season series, as the club's meet for the fourth time this season tonight and for the third time at BankAtlantic Center.

Both the Thrashers and Panthers come into this game just outside of the playoff picture. Atlanta is tied for 10th in the Eastern Conference with 49 points, one back of the eighth spot, while Florida is a point behind Atlanta in the standings.

That should add excitement to a series that has already featured three one- goal games. The Thrashers drew first blood with a 4-3 home win on November 30 on Maxim Afinogenov's game-winner with 5.5 seconds left in regulation before Rich Peverley gave Atlanta a 2-1 shootout win at Florida on December 5 with a fourth-round tally.

The Panthers finally cracked the win column in the series on December 16 at home, as they blew a 3-0 lead to the Thrashers before escaping with a 4-3 triumph on Michael Frolik's go-ahead tally with 1:21 left in regulation.

The series opener in Atlanta was also one that Florida netminder Tomas Vokoun has likely been unable to forget after he was injured by teammate Keith Ballard, who accidentally hit his own netminder in the head with his stick after swinging it in frustration following an Atlanta goal.

Vokoun suffered an ear laceration, but missed just two games. He made 47 saves in Saturday's 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay that gave the Panthers a home-and- home sweep of the Lightning and improved them to 3-0-1 in their last four games.

"We got off to a good start...and after that [Vokoun] stood on his head and was really the first star," said Cory Stillman, who notched his first multi- goal game of the season to go along with an assist.

Rostislav Olesz also had two goals and five of his 13 tallies this season have now come in his last four games. Bryan Allen added a goal as well.

Stephen Weiss, who leads the Panthers with 19 goals and is second with 42 points this year, was limited on Saturday due to a lower-body injury but is expected to play in this contest. He has three goals and two assists versus the Thrashers this year.

Atlanta seeks back-to-back road victories tonight after snapping an eight-game slide as the guest with Saturday's 5-3 victory at Carolina. Ilya Kovalchuk had the go-ahead goal in the third period and Ondrej Pavelec made 29 saves, including a stop on Eric Staal's penalty shot in the second period with the game tied.

"Good goaltending is making big saves at the right time," said Thrashers head coach John Anderson.

Kovalchuk, Zach Bogosian, Jim Slater, Rich Peverley and Nik Antropov all registered a goal and an assist each for the Thrashers, who won on the road for the first time since December 14 and are now 3-1-1 since an 0-7-2 stretch.

Kovalchuk lit the lamp for a third straight game and has also scored in 12 of his past 18 contests. He is fifth in the NHL with 28 goals and has three tallies and an assist versus Florida this season.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.

Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.
