The 38-year-old veteran exited a May 22 game against Baltimore with a lower back injury. He was hurt in the bottom of the third inning when he swung and missed at a Brad Bergesen pitch. Manager Jim Riggleman and the team's trainer came to his aid, but Rodriguez told his manager he was fine. He grounded out during the at-bat and left the game as the inning ended.

The 14-time All-Star selection came into Tuesday's game batting .325 with one home run and 16 RBI in 35 contests this season.

To make space on the roster, the club designated catcher Jamie Burke for assignment.
