02/24/2007 - Carson, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Major League Soccer's Club Deportivo Chivas USA announced Friday that defender Jonathan Bornstein is expected to miss six weeks with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee.
The injury reportedly occurred Thursday morning during Chivas USA's practice at The Home Depot Center, here. The extent of the injury was revealed after an MRI exam Thursday afternoon.
Bornstein, a 22-year-old native of Los Alamitos, Calif., and the reigning MLS Rookie of the Year, has played the past two games for the U.S. Men's National Team, starting and playing all 90 minutes in friendlies against Denmark and Mexico.
During league play last season, Bornstein started and played in 34 games for Chivas USA, including playoffs, while logging 3,058 minutes and registering 6 goals and 4 assists. The UCLA and Cal Poly Pomona product finished third in minutes played while leading all MLS rookies in goals scored.
Bornstein will probably miss the MNT friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala in March and could miss the first game of the MLS season. Chivas USA opens its 2007 MLS season on Saturday, April 7 against Toronto FC at The Home Depot Center.
